Lots of link love for my favorite places and spaces on the web!

Online Running Communities

Runner’s World Home on the web for the best selling running magazine. Articles, training plans, forums, blogs, videos, and perhaps the best part, Rave Run Wallpaper for your computer FREE to download.

Tribal Running – a newer running community that gives YOU tons of control over customizing your profile. Blogs, forums, groups, product giveaways.  The brains behind this site are constantly looking for feedback to create a community tailored to their users.

Daily Mile – Want to know exactly how many donuts you’ve earned after your workout? How about how many tv’s you’ve powered? Log your workouts, join running challenges, find routes in your area, motivate other runners or get motivated yourself at Daily Mile. Very similar format to Facebook.

Run Like a Mother - Wasn't sure where exactly to put this one. It's kind of a blog, kind of an online running community created by the infamous Running World contributing writers and Run Like a Mother authors' Dimity McDowell and Sarah Bowen Shea. Either way, you'll definitely want to check this site out if you haven't already, particularly if you're a running mom. If you're not, carry on then. Nothing for you to see ;-)

Mom on the Run Community - An online community developed by a running mom for running moms but not limited soley to running talk, rather any and all things mom. Drop in on a discussion, read a blog post, or just get connected with other moms who get it because they run too.

Finding A Race

RunMichigan – Where I go to first, but then again, I AM from Michigan so…

Marathon Guide But when I’m looking for a marathon, I go here. Michigan only has so many.

Racevine – And I wouldn’t dare register without checking the reviews on Racevine. On Racevine you get not just course reviews, but the real nitty gritty. How was the bathroom situation? Did you get any cool swag? Where should you stay if you’re coming in from out of town? Soooooooouper easy (and quick) to write your own review too.

Favorite Running Shops

Running Fit – Of course, you all know this already. How many times have I sang their glorious praises?  And if you happen to be in Michigan, good news! They’ve got lots of locations. If you don’t, sadly, you will just have to envy from afar and settle for their online shop. If you want to come close to the helpful, friendly staff actually IN the stores, sign up for their newsletter. They’re a pretty creative bunch. They did after all come up with the Martian Marathon, Dances w/ Dirt and the T-Rex Tri. It will be almost like you’re in the store. Well…almost.

One More Mile – Looking for some sweet running apparel? Look no further. I can not resist these guys and their hilarious shirt slogans. And if that wasn’t enough, now they’ve got a line for John Bingham’s stuff. You know John Bingham. He’s the author from RW that ends all his stuff with waddle on.  Just go take a peek and you’ll see what I mean. Oh and if you don’t like anything, submit you’re own slogan. They’re having a contest. Problem solved.

Other Cool Stuff

Cool Running Pace Calculator- Can not even begin to tell you the number of times I’ve used this. I’ve favorited it on my toolbar for easy access.

5 Minutes for Mom – not actually running related but certainly mom related. If nothing more, you've got to check out the giveaways.

This Mother Can Run - An online running moms' magazine, the only one of its kind (at least that I know of). It's entirely written for and by running moms. Does it get any better? Oh why yes it does! Sign up on the homepage and you'll have each new issue directly delivered to your email inbox entirely 100% free. Ahhh...I love free!

Races I’ve got my eye on…

Big Sur Marathon– aahh…I love it out there. Plus Bart Yasso says if you could run only one that’d be it. So who am I to argue? Oh and the description says it will enrich my soul. I could use a good soul enrichment right about now.

Chicago Marathon – One word. Redo.

Dexter-Ann Arbor 1/2 Marathon – Michigan doesn’t have a ton of big races, but 6500 particpants says this is one of them and I missed it this year and as a Michigan resident I feel obligated to run all the big MI races at least once. It’s just the right thing to do.

Goofy’s Challenge – Because who wouldn’t want to run through Cinderella’s castle? And hey, if you’re going to run a marathon there, why not do the half too? Besides, have you seen that medal?

Muddy Buddy – Come on. It looks fun. Right?

Steamtown Marathon – Because it’s mostly downhill. And yes, I do know this will beat the snot out of my legs (there probably shouldn’t be snot there anyway), but they ought to be moving quickly while they’re taking that beating and that’s good enough for me.

Dances with Dirt – Just read the course description. You’ll get it. Plus, they pretty much call me a pansy in the first line of their website, since I am, afterall, primarily a treadmill runner. So yeah. I got something to prove.

Ragnar Relay-  What? Who doesn’t want to get a bunch of friends to run a really long way together night and day? That doesn’t sound like fun to you?

Mackinaw Memorial Bridge Run – Because I used to be afraid of this bridge when I was little.

All three of these Mackinac Island Runs – I love Mackinac Island. Period. (The island and the city are both spelled differently. Both pronounced Mackinaw. Weird, I know. It’s complicated.)

Pikes Peak Ascent & Marathon -  I don’t know which. Ascent or Marathon (also running down). But all I know is my husband was totally impressed with some chic who did the ascent, so I’d like him to one day be able to say that chic was me.

Dipsea – It’s the whole not being able to get in that intrigues me. That and it’s the oldest trail race in the country. And the cheating.

Disney Wine & Dine 1/2 Marathon - Because if you ask my 4 year old what mommy's favorite thing to do is, she will without hesitation reply "EAT!" And yeah, she's totally right. Add a glass of wine and preface it with a run through Disneyworld = magic, sheer & utter magic.

Boston Marathon – Stop laughing. I know I’ve got a lot of work to do. But one day, just perhaps my marathon time and age group qualifying time will collide and VOILA! I will be there. Maybe the year of Steamtown?

Comrades Ultra – Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha….maybe?

I’m sure this list will be growing for as long as my legs will carry me…
